Well, this month we’ve seen a woman claim that an auto accident in San Francisco that she was caused was due to being distracted by a solar eclipse. Earlier this month, an Irish tourist was deemed responsible for a head-on accident in San Mateo County in which he was driving on the wrong side of the road.
Joshua Melvin posted the story on the Mercury News website, May, 6, 2012, under the headline, “Irish tourist blamed for wrong way car crash in San Mateo County.” Melvin cited the police as asserting that an unidentified 34-year-old Irish man was driving on the wrong side of a remote stretch of Highway 1 in San Mateo County and is believed to be responsible for a head-on auto collision that Saturday night resulted in five people being injured, not sure the auto repair costs involved. By the way this San Francisco plus San Mateo auto repair service is tops:
Holland Car Care
22 South Claremont Street,
San Mateo, CA 94401
(650) 344-8815
Melvin reported that according to the California Highway Patrol, the man, who was, “was unfamiliar with American roadways” and drove his Toyota north in the southbound lanes near Tunitas Creek. It seems the poor guy pulled back onto the road after a stop to take photos. Melvin sited the police as saying a southbound Acura was coming right at him and in attempting to veer away the man and the Acura driver both veered to the right side southbound on Highway 1 and crashed in a head on collision.
No wonder the San Mateo as well as San Francisco auto repair services seem to be keeping very busy.
The Irish tourist, the 43-year-old man driving the Acura and his 42-year-old female passenger, sustained, serious injuries in the collision. They were all transported to Stanford Hospital. Two children in the Acura suffered minor injuries.
I guess the moral is, don’t drive during solar eclipses and don’t share the road with Irish tourists
